Veganniversary's goal is to promote veganism by helping people remember and celebrate their vegan anniversaries.
If any of your Facebook friends use Veganniversary, then these friends will be able to see your veganniversary date if you provided it. They will also be encouraged to post messages to Facebook to celebrate your veganniversary, which will likely be seen by your other friends. You can omit your veganniversary date or delete it at any time if you wish to no longer make this information visible to your friends through this app.
Who Is Responsible For Your Data
Sébastien Molines, developer of the Veganniversary app, is responsible for your data. You may reach me at [email protected]
What Data Is Collected About You
When you log in using Facebook, Veganniversary collects 6 pieces of information from your Facebook profile and stores it in your user record inside a secure database only accessible to the backend. This information is your Facebook ID (a number) and alias (an optional handle if you have one), your names (first name and full name), your time zone (so that the system knows what time to notify you, not too early and not too late) and your preferred language. Then the data that you enter in the Veganniversary (your vegan status, the date you went vegan, whether it's exact or an approximate date, your email, your Twitter alias), if you provide any of these, are also added to this same user record. And that's it! No other information about you is stored.
Veganniversary does NOT access or store any of your Facebook information other than the profile info detailed above (Facebook ID/alias, first name, name, time zone, language).
For example, this is my own full record:
"$oid": "52f4335b73c1100200b9e2bf" Abritrary user record ID
"__v": 0, Version
"e": "[email protected]", Email to notify about anniversaries
"fb": "628587209", Facebook ID
"fbn": "clafou", Facebook alias if any
"fn": "Sébastien", First name
"loc": "en_GB", Preferred language
"md": 1006, Veganniversary month (10) and day (6)
"n": "Sébastien Molines", Name
"t": "clafou", Twitter handle
"tz": 0, Timezone (GTM + n)
"y": 2007 Veganniversary year
The Veganniversary database also stores a journal of each notification it has sent, for diagnostics and auditing purposes. These records contain no personally identifiable information (no email addresses, no names, etc). Once a user record is deleted there is no other information left about the user anywhere in the Veganniversary system.
How Your Personal Data Is Used
Your personal data is only used for the explicit purpose of the Veganniversary app, which is to display you your and your friends veganniversaries and to notify you when your or a friend's veganniversary occurs. In rare occasions it may also be used to contact you about important updates.
How Facebook Data Is Accessed
Other than the six fields from your Facebook profile detailed above, Veganniversary needs to know about your Facebook friends who also authorised Veganniversary so that it can tell you about their veganniversaries. This consists of a list of Facebook IDs. It is created on demand by sending a request to Facebook asking for the IDs of your friends who also use the Veganniversary app. Typically this is a very small number of Facebook user IDs, or none at all. Veganniversary never stores this list, not just for privacy reason but also because this list changes if some your friends join Veganniversary, so it makes no sense to store it. Once Veganniversary receive these Facebook user IDs it then looks them up in its Veganniversary database to display them with their names and their veganniversary dates. It displays their profile photo by simply linking to their Facebook profile photo (again, in real time, without storing them).
Veganniversary does NOT access your full friend list from Facebook. Veganniversary only receives the Facebook IDs of your friends, if any, who are also using Veganniversary.
How Your Data Is Protected
Your data is stored in a database accessible only to the authorised Veganniversary backend and its developer using industry-standard secure protocols. It is hosted on a Database-as-a-Service platform, which provides a high level of security with ongoing patching and monitoring.
How Long Your Data Is Stored
Your data is stored indefinitely. You can delete your email, Twitter ID, Veganniversary status and date at any time by clearing these fields in your profile. If you wish to fully remove your user record, please contact the developer [email protected]
It will be fully deleted as soon as possible, and within 30 days of your request as per required by the General Data Protection Regulation.
Your Data Is Never Shared
Veganniversary does NOT provide your data to any third-party in any way.
In particular, Veganniversary does NOT share your data with Facebook, such as your vegan status or your veganniversary date.
Facebook knows when you use the app, since you need to sign in with your Facebook login and authorise the app. And if you post a Veganniversary message in Facebook, or if someone posts a Veganniversary message to your Facebook feed, then Facebook will know that this was done using Veganniversary. As a result Facebook may learn that you have an interest in veganism.
You are entitled to see all your personal data and to amend, correct or delete it. I, the developer, am under obligation to facilitate this within 30 days of your request. You may edit your data using the app itself, and you can remove information such as email by clearing the relevant field. You may email me at [email protected]
to fully delete your user record from the system.
